Velari
The Velari have a genetic mutation which causes their bodies to age at a drastically slower rate than most races. Velari adults appear childlike and the elderly appear to look much like human young adults(20-30 years old). Velari live on average 600-700 years with a few documented cases of over 900. Otherwise they are physically similar to humans though the Velari have two hearts. One is 'normal' in size and the other, located on the opposite side of the chest cavity, is about half sized.
All Velari posess Omni-Linguism, the ability to understand any form of language. However, understanding and speaking are not linked immediately. They still require some study in the language before being able to comminicate efficiently.
They also use a form of telepathy, much like the Cairn, instead of transmitting word or sound they transmit pure images and thought. Though it is not used as a main form of communication, it is thought that it may have once been. Most Velari prefer to speak normally and hardly "touch" upon their telepathic abilities.
Velari are considered children until they reach the age of 75, at that point they are allowed to enter higher learning facilities and the military. As children they attend school beginning at the age of 12. All children are highly trained in a physical activity of some sort until their departure from school. Music and Art are extremely important as well, children are trained in both studies extensively. Once they reach 'upper' level schooling where they are allowed to choose which they would like to specialize in.
Bonding is a life long commitment in Velari society. During the bonding ceremony the man and woman gain a telepathic link to one and other. There have only been a handful of Velari to marry outside of their culture, but it is not unheard of or unwelcomed.
A peaceful race with advanced technology they used mainly for trading and exploration. Their military is small and barely kept their world defended against a sudden attack now called The Great War. A task force of three Starfleet ships aided in ending the war and the Velari joined the Federation. Bringing with them a few new pieces of technology for the scientists and engineers to toy with.
